David Munoz was 17 when he enlisted into the NEARNG. He found himself at basic training during his junior and senior year of high school with attending AIT as a Cavalry Scout the following year. Munoz found himself on the way to Ramadi Iraq the same year he graduated in 2004. While training for his deployment he got selected to attend sniper school (SAFS) at Camp Robinson along with a few others that were all handpicked. This opened his eyes to not only his love for training but to the value you put in it. He would go on to serve as assistant gunner and dismount while serving 1 year and 22 days boots on ground in Ramadi. While there he earned the respect of his fellow platoon members and attached teams like the Marine EOD security units. Munoz was award various medals to included one for valor for disarming a roadside bomb with is hands while others ran to protect his team and civilians in the area. When he returned home he constantly engaged the unit commander for Airborne, Air Assault and Pathfinder Schools. The commander at the time knew that as a Cav Scout his chances at going to those courses was slim but gave him the opportunity to switch MOS to Parachute Rigger. Munoz faced a difficult decision to leave guys he fought with in war but his love for training could not be ignored so he went off to transition to a 92R Parachute Rigger. Munoz excelled at being a parachute rigger and in a matter time he was in the position to become a Jumpmaster. This school is a great challenge and tests anyone attending but the greatest challenge was still ahead. Passing JM School started to scratch the itch for more training but Munoz needed more. He spent 8 years in the parachute rigger unit where he was also able to attend and pass Air Assault, Pathfinder School, Joint Airdrop Load Inspector Course and other courses to further his career. Munoz in 2016 was moved to Training Center Command where he oversees various aspects of a training site. He will hit 20 years in February of 2023 and plans to retire shortly after that so he has more free time to help veterans and spend time with family.
